Netflix has announced the cast for Guillermo del Torro’s (The Shape of Water) upcoming anthology series, Cabinet of Curiosities, via Deadline. The streamer also confirmed the new title from the original, Guillermo del Torro Presents 10 After Midnight.
Joining the cast are Essie Davis (Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries), Luke Roberts (Ransom), Andrew Lincoln (The Walking Dead), Glynn Turman (Cooley High), Ben Barnes (The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian), Elpidia Carrillo (Predator), Hannah Galway (Sex/Life), Crispin Glover (Charlie’s Angels), Demetrius Gross (Lovecraft Country), David Hewlett (Strange Atlantis), Tim Blake Nelson (The Ballad of Buster Scruggs), Sebastian Roché (The Vampire Diaries), and Peter Weller (RoboCop). Other cast members joining the series are to be announced.
Panos Castamos (Beyond the Black Rainbow), Jennifer Kent (The Babadook), and Vicenzo Natali (Splice) are set to write and direct single episodes of the series. Del Torro is set as the showrunner of the anthology.
Deadline has also confirmed that filming has officially begun in Toronto. Netflix promises that Cabinets of Curiosities will “challenge our traditional notions of horror”. The eight stories will be created by a team of writers and directors handpicked by del Torro.
The directing team will include Ana Lily Amirpour (A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night), Catherine Hardwicke (Thirteen), Guillermo Navarro (Cocaine Godmother), David Prior (The Empty Man), and Keith Thomas (The Vigil).
J. Miles Dale (The Shape of Water) will serve as executive producer and co-showrunner, and Gary Ungar (Pinnochio) and Regina Corrado (The Strain) will also executive produce.
Deadline has also given a list of actors and crew working on each episode.
One episode will star Davis, Lincoln, and Galway with Kent writing and directing the episodes. The story will be based on an original story by del Torro. Another will star F. Murray Abraham (Amadeus), Turman, and Roberts with David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight) writing the story and Prior directing.
Blake Nelson, Carrillio, Grosse, and Roché will star in an episode written by Corrado and directed by Navarro. Another episode will be based on a story written by H.P. Lovecraft and will star Glover and Ben Barnes (Shadow and Bone). The episode will be written by Lee Patterson (Curve) and directed by Keith Thomas (Firestarter).
Weller will star in an episode written and directed by Cosmatos. Aaron Stewart-Aahn will co-write. Mika Watkins (Origin) will write an episode directed by Catherine Hardwicke (Twilight), and Hewlett was cast in an episode written and directed by Natali. Haley Z. Boston (Brand New Cherry Flavor) will write an episode directed by Amirpour, based on a short story by comic book author Emily Carroll (Through the Woods).
A release date was not announced for Cabinets of Curiosities.
