Charmed star Madeleine Mantock (Into the Badlands) will be departing the CW reboot after three seasons, according to Variety. She played one of the three lead roles, as Macy alongside Melonie Diaz (Fruitvale Station) and Sarah Jeffery (Descendants).
The original series, launching in 1998 and continuing for eight seasons, followed a trio of sisters who make the startling revelation that they are all witches. From their San Francisco home, they team up to fight forces of evil with each of their respective powers. The series starred Holly Marie Combs (Pretty Little Liars), Alyssa Milano (Who’s the Boss?), Shannon Doherty (Beverly Hills: 90210), and Rose McGowan (Planet Terror). The show’s reboot series, which launched in 2018, follows a similar plotline with a new set of witches.
“Playing Macy on Charmed for the last three seasons has been an immense privilege and I have so enjoyed working with our fantastic producers, creatives, cast, and crew,” Mantock said in a statement after announcing her exit from the show. “I’m incredibly grateful to The CW and CBS Studios for my time on the show and for being a brilliant support [system] in my difficult decision to leave. Huge thanks to our fans who can look forward to, what I know will be, a spectacular season,” via Variety. The third season is expected to wrap up on July 23, which will serve as Mantock’s final appearance as a series regular on Charmed. It is still unclear how Macy will be written off the series, however, the official logline for the season finale states, “When an encounter with the Whispering Evil leaves Macy on the brink of death, Mel and Maggie cast an ancient spell sending the Charmed Ones off on a series of epic adventures. Meanwhile, realizing only a Whitelighter can save Macy, Harry asks Jordan and Celeste to help him do the unthinkable,” as reported by Variety.
Charmed joined fellow CW shows Walker, Riverdale, The Flash, and Legends of Tomorrow in earned renewals this past February. It will be returning for a fourth season, despite losing a main cast member. “We can’t thank Madeleine enough for her incredible and inspiring work on Charmed,” said Charmed executive producers Liz Kruger (Salvation) and Craig Shapiro (Our Lips are Sealed). “We will miss her as much as the fans will, but we also respect her decision to move on. This is a difficult time in the world, and everyone has to follow their heart. We wish her well, and the door is always open for a return visit from Macy…one way or another!” via Variety.
