Fans of classic Canadian sketch comedy series The Kids in the Hall were in for a treat when they logged into Twitter on Wednesday to find a grinning photo of the reunited cast – Dave Foley (A Bug’s Life, NewsRadio), Kevin McDonald (Sky High, Invader ZIM), Bruce McCulloch (Arrested Development, Dog Park), Mark McKinney (Superstore, Saturday Night Live) and Scott Thompson (Hannibal, But I’m Chris Jericho!). The eight-part Amazon Prime The Kids in the Hall reunion was announced right before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, which delayed production on the series, meaning Wednesday’s photo has been over a year in the making.

Though Amazon picked up The Kids in the Hall last March, Slash Film reports that the cast has been championing a revival since 2017. There have been various forms of reunion for the cast since The Kid in the Hall went off the air in 1995 including follow-up film Brain Candy, live shows and performances – including a recent appearance at Festpocalypse! – the mini-series Death Comes to Town and Foley visiting McKinney on NBC’s Superstore. However, Amazon’s upcoming series will mark the first occasion in which the entire cast will reconvene to make brand new The Kids in the Hall sketches in nearly three decades.

The picture of The Kids in the Hall back-at-work on their new series was first shared by Foley on Twitter, though it’s not just the on-screen talent returning for the Amazon reunion. According to Nerdist, Lorne Michaels (Saturday Night Live, 30 Rock) will be returning to executive produce The Kids in the Hall once more. “Even after 30 years, The Kids in the Hall has retained its brilliance and originality,” Nerdist quoted Michaels “we are happy to be bringing back all of the original ‘Kids’ for the new series.”
Nerdist likewise reports that the cast will bring back “most [of] their original recurring characters,” ramping up the excitement even more for fans. Characters such as Headcrusher, Chicken Lady, The King of Empty Promises, Francesca Fiore and Bruno Puntz Jones may all stop by Amazon’s upcoming iteration of The Kids in the Hall.
As production has just gotten underway, there’s not yet a timeline for when fans can get their hands on the all-new The Kids in the Hall. For now, fans will have to find solace in Wednesday’s “photographic proof that [the Kids] can still occupy the same physical space,” while they await more news from Amazon, via Twitter.
