A new featurette was released for the Disney+ and Marvel Studios original series The Falcon and The Winter Soldier which displayed the return of the Dora Milaje, particularly Ayo, to the MCU, according to a Disney+ press release. The series, which premiered the first of its six episodes on March 19, is preparing for the release of its fifth episode on Friday, April 16. In its third and fourth installments of the first season, the Wakandan special forces, the Dora Milaje, made a surprise return to the MCU following their last appearance in the final battle against Thanos in Avengers: Endgame.
The Dora Milaje were an integral part of the more recent installments of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with their first appearances occurring in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War with one of the soldiers Ayo, played by Florence Kasumba (Wonder Woman), making an appearance. The Dora Milaje have made greater strides with the MCU in 2018’s Black Panther as well, offering their protection to T’Challa and his temporary replacement Killmonger, until T’Challa’s return to the throne. In addition to Endgame, the special forces were also included in its preceding film, Avengers: Infinity War as well.
Danai Gurira (The Walking Dead) portrayed Okoye in Black Panther, Infinity War, and Endgame, however, it is undetermined if she will return for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Yet, Kasumba made her mark with her return as Ayo in the closing moments of episode three and in her actions against John Walker, the United States government’s replacement for Steve Rogers, portrayed by Wyatt Russell (Overlord).
The Falcon and The Winter Soldier centers on the partnership between Sam Wilson, or Falcon, and Bucky Barnes, or the Winter Soldier, during the transition of power away from Captain America after Endgame. Anthony Mackie (8 Mile) and Sebastian Stan (Gossip Girl) reprise their respective roles as Wilson and Barnes for the six-episode television series and are also joined by a returning Daniel Brühl (Inglourious Basterds) as Baron Zemo to the MCU, following an absence since Captain America: Civil War. The Disney+ original follows the partnership as they go up against the Flag Smashers, an anarchistic group that has gained access to the Super Soldier Serum.
The newly released featurette from Marvel and Disney showcases flashes of scenes of the Ayo and the Dora Milaje’s return paired with some commentary from the crew and cast of the MCU original. Check out the one minute video below:
