As The CW’s Batwoman continues taping its second season in Vancouver, lead Javicia Leslie (God Friended Me) gave fans a sneak peek of herself in full Bat regalia. According to Deadline, Leslie shared a photo of her in the Batsuit on her Instagram.
In the photo, Leslie dons the Batwoman mask and signature red hair with the caption “Look out, Gotham, I’m suited up and ready to go…But just wait until Ryan Wilder puts her own spin on the Batsuit,” via Instagram. According to Deadline, Leslie was announced as the new Batwoman following Ruby Rose’s (The Meg, XXX: The Return of Xander Cage) departure after season one. The second season of the series will launch with Leslie as Ryan Wilder, a whole new character succeeding Rose’s Kate Kane. With this casting, Leslie became the first Black woman to portray the heroine.
The series developed by Caroline Dries (Smallville, The Vampire Diaries) is based on DC characters created by Bob Kane (Batman: The Dark Knight Archives) and Bill Finger (Batman #1), via Deadline. Season one followed Kate Kane, Bruce Wayne’s cousin, as she takes up the mantle of the caped crusader in her cousin’s absence. Fighting crime becomes more complicated as a nemesis from Kate’s past threatens everything she loves.
The show stars Dougray Scott (Taken 3, Ever After) as Kate father Jacob Kane; Meagan Tandy (The Trap, Teen Wolf) as Kate’s ex Sophia Moore; Rachel Skarsten (Birds of Prey, Lost Girl) as Beth Kane/Alice; Nicole Kang (You, Swallow) as Mary Hamilton; and, Camrus Johnson (The Sun Is Also a Star, The Cat and the Moon) as Luke Fox. According to Deadline, Dries serves as an executive producer with Greg Berlanti (Supergirl, Stargirl), Sarah Schechter (Free Guy, Pan), and Geoff Johns (Green Lantern, The Flash). The show is a Berlanti Productions series.
