The cast of The CW’s Batwoman gathered to talk about representation in the media, new story lines, and what to expect in season 2, via Variety. The panel was streamed by DC Fandome.
A major change in season 2 is that Batwoman will now be played by Javicia Leslie (God Friended Me). Originally, Batwoman/Kate Kane was played by Ruby Rose (Orange Is The New Black). After Rose exited the show, Leslie was cast as Ryan Wilder, aka the new Batwoman.
A big difference between Kate Keene and Ryan Wilder is that Keene comes from money and wealth, while Wilder used to be a drug dealer and had a complicated childhood. She’s a brand new character for the DC world and has to deal with a system that has been designed against her.
Leslie and her character are both LGBTQ+. She will be representing the bisexual community in season 2 of Batwoman. Additionally, Leslie mentioned in the stream that her bat suit will feature her natural hair and that the suit will be modified as her character changes over time.
The cast hinted that the new season will revolve around the disappearance of Kate Keene. Ryan Wilder eventually gets involved with the Kane family and brings them closer together. Alice, who is played by Rachel Skarsten (Fifty Shades of Grey), is less than thrilled about Wilder’s entrance because it inters with her plans to take down her twin sister, Kate.
The panel also included cast members Meagan Tandy (Teen Wolf), Camrus Johnson (The OA), and Nicole Kang (You). Executive producers Caroline Dries (The Vampire Diaries) and Sarah Schneider (Arrow) were present on the stream too.
The official Batwoman account posted to Instagram to commemorate their first day of filming.
