Netflix announced today when the third and final season of its animated series Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts will debut. As Collider reported, the post-apocalyptic action series will return for one last bow on October 12th.
Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts was co-created by Bill Wolkoff (Once Upon A Time) and Rad Sechrist (Ben 10: Alien Force), based on Sechrist’s 2015 webcomic titled simply Kipo. The series takes place in a futuristic Earth, where a mysterious disaster has forced people underground. The surface world is now home to mutant animals and people, with few surviving civilizations. The star of the series is the titular Kipo (voiced by Karen Fukuhara, The Boys), a young girl leaving her underground burrow to search for her missing father.
Along her travels, Kipo meets a variety of new friends. Sydney Mikayla (General Hospital) voices Wolf, a hardened survivor of the surface world who quickly becomes Kipo’s best friend. Coy Stewart (Are We There Yet?) plays Benson, another human survivor who is much more relaxed and carefree than Wolf. Deon Cole (Black-ish) voices Benson’s best friend, the mutant insect Dave. Rounding out the main cast are Sterling K. Brown (Frozen II) as Kipo’s father Lio Oak and Dee Bradley Baker (Avatar: the Last Airbender) as Kipo’s four-eyed pet pig.
Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts has had an expedited production and release schedule. Unusual for an animated show, the entire series has been released this year: the first season on January 14th, 2020, a second season on June 12th, 2020, and this upcoming third and final season on October 12th. Each season, including the latest, has consisted of 10 episodes.
The first two seasons of Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts are available to stream on Netflix.
