Disney+ is expanding on their Beauty and The Beast live-action remake through a prequel series titled Little Town, according to Comicbook. The series will focus on characters Gaston and LeFou with the title from famed composer, Alan Menken (Aladdin, Hercules). Luke Evans (Fast and Furious 6) and Josh Gad (Frozen, Pixels) are confirmed returning to their voice roles as Gaston and LeFou.
The title is based based off the original first part of the Beauty and the Beast classic Belle, where Belle met the two characters for the first time. It is also a tribute to Howard Ashman (The Little Mermaid, Aladdin), a lyricist who worked with Menken who passed away in 1991, according to Comicbook. Ashman will be commemorated through Disney in a documentary, which should be on Disney+ next week.
“I’m excited about the projects I’m doing,” Menken told Variety via Comicbook. “I’m working on Disenchanted and a new Beauty and the Beast prequel, The Little Town. I’ve also been working on the new animated picture Spellbound with John Lasseter. And I’m doing a bunch of Broadway shows.”
Little Town will also feature several new songs from Menken, who also created songs for the 2017 live-action Beauty and the Beast. Little Town is still in the works and there is no known release date or information about other cast members.
