The explosive adventures of Harley Quinn continue, as the animated web series has been renewed for a second season on DC Universe. However, the series will be continuing with a new fan favorite – Catwoman – voiced by voice actress Sanaa Lathan and Mr. Freeze, voiced by Alfred Molina.
Harley Quinn premiered in November of last year on DC Universe and is based on its namesake character. The series follows the adventures of Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy following Quinn’s breakup with the Joker. The series is written and executive produced by Justin Halpern with Kaley Cuoco starring as Harley Quinn. The show has received positive critical reviews with an approval rating of 89% based on 27 reviews on RottenTomatoes as well as a weighted average score of 82 on Metacritic.
Catwoman (voiced by Sanaa Lathan) is the final member of the Gotham City Sirens, a morally gray criminal team featuring the DC Universe’s most popular female villains, who will complete the classic comic book trio. Lathan is best known for her roles in The Affair, The Twilight Zone, and Love and Basketball. Lathan teased her role last year during an appearance at the American Black Film Festival, but it has only now been confirmed.
However, Freeze and Catwoman aren’t the only fan-favorites that are anticipated to join the cast. Patrick Schumaker, a showrunner for the series, stated in an interview with DC Nation that “Harley has a target on her back. The male supervillains from Batman’s Rogue’s gallery don’t take too kindly to the ascendancy of the female super villain and begin to conspire against her. I think that’s about all we can say, but you will see a lot more villains from Gotham.”
No release date for the second season has yet been confirmed. However, it is rumored that the premiere on DC Universe on April 3, according to comicbook.com.
