Deadline has revealed FX recently released a teaser trailer for Fargo, revealing more details about the fourth entree to the upcoming crime anthology, while giving fans a glimpse into what kind of performances to expect from the Noah Hawley project.
The trailer is true to the show’s premise, teasing tensions between the Italian mafia, still trying to maintain relevance in power in the constantly changing world of organized crime, and an African American mob who believe that their organized crime’s next big thing. “The Italians, they’re the past. We’re the future. They just don’t know it yet.” Fargo star and comedian Chris Rock says in the trailer, who’ll be playing black gangster Loy Cannon in the anthology. According to Deadline, this iteration of Fargo will take place 1950s Kansas City, where a clash of cultures, ideologies and legacies are met between the Italian mob, led by Tomasso Ragno’s Donatello Fadda, and African American gangsters led by Chris Rock’s Loy Cannon. In an almost Shakespearean pact, the two criminal organizations strike a peace by trading in their youngest children, using both as leverage to maintain harmony between the two factions. Fargo will also be including a cast of Jason Schwartzman, Ben Wishaw, Jack Huston and Jessie Buckley.
Noah Hawley had Chris Rock in mind to play the role of Loy Cannon from the start. “Once I had the idea, I immediately thought of Rock,” Hawley said. “I met with Chris and pitched what I wanted to do. It was or five months before I had the script. I was definitely writing for him in mind.” Meanwhile, the star himself, Chris Rock, spoke about the series in a positive light, and gave fans a little hint of what to expect from Hawley’s latest project. Rock said, “Fargo is funny like a Scorsese movie, not like a Jim Carrey. As far as themes in the season, some of them I’ve probably touched in comedy routines before. I’ve obviously talked about racism. Racism has been good to me.”
The 4th season of Fargo premieres will be premiering on April 19th on the FX network.
