The Chi has landed itself a season three as the Lena Waithe-created drama has been renewed by Showtime, according to Deadline. This comes just as the series’ sophomore season debuts on the premium network.
Gary Levine, President of Entertainment at Showtime Networks said “We, like our viewers, have fallen in love with these characters, and we remain eager to see where Lena and her fellow artists will take them in Season 3.” Levine also said “The Chi revels in revealing the beating heart of the South Side of Chicago.” The Chi, produced by Fox Televisions Studios is a story about a group of residents who become intertwined by coincidence, but bonded by the need for connection.
The coming of age TV show features Jason Mitchell, Alex Hibbert, Jacob Latimore, Yolonda Ross and Armando Riesco. In the second season, which airs Sundays at 10 p.m. Brandon plans for a food truck business. Jada finds a new life of her own, Emmett attempts to mature and gain custody of his son while Kevin deals with a trauma. Also during this season Detective Cruz launches a new investigation.
The creator of Boomerang, Waithe, also won an Emmy for Master of None on Netflix and executive produces the show along with Common, Aaron Kaplan, Rick Famuyiwa, Ayanna Floyd Davis, and Shelby Stone.
