When Absolutely Fabulous premiered in 1992, it provided Mya-Lecia Naylor with a place on the small screen. She played an infant in the hit comedy series, and would go on to star in the popular shows Millie Inbetween and Almost Never. In a devastating announcement from CBBC on Wednesday, the young star has died. Her agents later confirmed that on April 7th, the 16-year-old actress collapsed. She died later that day.
The Hollywood Reporter relayed CBBC’s statement. Representatives from the television channel said, “We are so sorry to have to tell you that Mya-Lecia, who you will know from Millie Inbetween and Almost Never, has very sadly died. Mya-Lecia was a much loved part of the BBC Children’s family, and a hugely talented actress, singer and dancer. We will miss her enormously and we are sure that you will want to join us in sending all our love to her family and friends.”
Since the announcement, there has been an onslaught of empathetic responses and support of the rising star. The official instagram of Almost Never shared the following statement in a post: “Our thoughts are with Mya-Lecia’s family, friends and everyone that loved her at this very sad time. RIP Mya-Lecia.”
Emily Atack, Naylor’s costar who plays Charlotte Hinchcliffe in Millie Inbetween echoed those sentiments in an instagram post of her own. “So shocked and sad to hear about lovely Mya-Lecia Naylor,” wrote the actress. “She was a beautiful and talented girl. A complete joy to be around on the set of Almost Never. Sending all my love to her family & friends. Rest in peace beautiful girl x.”
All in all, television professionals, fans, and loved ones of Naylor will mourn the loss of such a talented young actress, daughter, and friend.
