Almost a week ago, HBO released what could be the final trailer for the much anticipated eighth and final season of Game of Thrones. The show that has been adapting fantasy author George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire book series, Game of Thrones became a worldwide phenomenon seemingly overnight, but 2019 will mark the end of the series. You can see that trailer in its entirety down below:
That said, the marketing packages for Game of Thrones continue to slowly ooze out of HBO as EW published a few images from the set of the eighth season, as well as some cover issues featuring the show’s main characters. But the newest trailer might be the biggest signifier of the show’s heightening anticipation as it has broken a record for HBO.
According to Deadline, the season 8 trailer reached 81 million views in 24 hours. That number is the most views any HBO TV trailer has ever received in that time period, with 2017’s season 7 trailer’s 61 million views being bested.
HBO has had its problems with spoilers leaking in the past, but the premium cable service isn’t taking any risks when it comes to their final season — even using drones to prevent set photos from leaking. Nevertheless, fans are itching for answers, and they will get them on April 14th when the series returns exclusively to HBO.
