Marvel’s new “Vision and Scarlett Witch” series has landed writer Jac Schaeffer, one of the pens behind the upcoming Captain Marvel movie. This will be one of the first productions that Marvel Studios will be making for Disney’s streaming service Disney+. The series will focus on the two characters Vision (Paul Bettany) and Scarlett Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) which are integral members of the Avengers. Schaeffer will write the pilot and executive produce, say sources.
Marvel, which likes to operate its development under a shield of secrecy, is known to be working on several series that will debut on Disney+. Other known series will focus on Loki (Tom Hiddleston) as well as a team-up between Falcon (Anthony Mackie) and Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan). Malcolm Spellman has also been hired on as a writer for the latter effort.
Vision and Scarlet Witch are some of Marvel Comics’ most enduring characters with love binding the two. Vision is a synthezoid who was created by Ultron, one of the Avengers’ greatest enemies. He is a being who longs for human understanding and over time achieves it at a small, but victorious level. Scarlet Witch, who is also known as Wanda Maximoff, has various sorcery abilities. Unlike Vision, Scarlet Witch is mostly known for being in the X-Men comics. She is the fraternal twin of Quicksilver. Since Disney and 20th Century Fox share the rights over the Marvel twins, allowing the characters to appear in both X-Men and Avengers films played by two different sets of actors, there are a few breaks in her storyline making it difficult to keep track of. In the films, her and Vision share a connection through the mind stone (one of the six infinity stones)- possibly one of the main reasons they share a connection on an emotional level.
In the 1980s, the pair headlined several comics miniseries with their relationship featuring several twists: they were married with two kids- which was *spoiler alert if you have yet to read them* were later revealed to be figments of Wanda’s imagination. Vision also later created his own android family.
For Schaeffer, the deal to run the “Vision and Scarlet Witch” series are to strengthen her ties to Marvel. In addition to working on Captain Marvel, she also wrote the screenplay for the Black Widow spinoff, with Scarlett Johansson reprising her role, which is due to shoot later this year.are
