Evan Rachel Wood is set to finally receive the same pay as her Westworld male co-stars.
In an exclusive interview with TheWrap Wood said she received a pay raise for season three Westworld. Her salary is now the same as her male co-stars Anthony Hopkins and Ed Harris make.
Wood gasped when she was told about the good news. She got emotional and said, “I have never been paid the same as my male counterparts…never, never,” she told TheWrap.
Wood says she is always fighting for equal pay because as a woman she does not always get it. In the interview, the 30-year-old actress mentioned how she has turned down jobs before because of the pay gap.
There’s are a lot of politics in the entertainment business but now things are being talked about in a different way, she expressed. ‘There is a lot of stuff that goes on behind the scenes. There is a lot of trying to make things equal and trying to make things fair. I don’t know, there is a lot of stuff. But this is the first time that somebody made a point of being like, ‘Hey you’re getting this. And you deserve it.’ And that was nice,” Wood’s said in the interview.
Earlier this month, HBO’s Casey Bloys talked about equal pay in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter and might have hinted about Wood’s pay raise.
“We’ve proactively gone thought all of our shows–in fact, we just finished our process where we went though and made sure that there were no inappropriate disparities in pay; and where there were, if we found any, we corrected it going forward,” the head of programing said. “And it’s a direct result of the Times Up movement.”
TheWrap reached out to HBO and they declined to comment on this story.
