Big Brother‘s catchphrase is “Expect the unexpected,” but one thing fans can always expect is for the CBS reality-competition show to return each summer. Now that summer is officially here and fans have met Season 19’s contestants, Big Brother is officially in production.
The reality-competition show is known for a game-changing twist that makes each season unique and Season 19 is no exception. Julie Chen, who acts as host for the series, spoke with TVInsider to discuss the upcoming season. She revealed, “There’s a new twist to the Sunday show!” The veteran host also teased,“I can’t tell you anything too specific about the twists, but I will tell you that the houseguests will be tempted like never before. So you’ll have to tune in to find out all the fun we have in store for the houseguests this summer. As always, expect the unexpected!”
A source close to the series revealed that one of the many twists of the upcoming season is “the Den of Temptation.” The den will be used as a space that viewers can send a contestant to each week to be tempted with an interesting and game-changing offer. Fans of the show know that while anything is possible in the world on Big Brother, nothing is without consequence. If contestants give into temptation, drama within the house will likely ensue.
Part of the reason that Big Brother stands out from other reality-competition shows on TV is that the series plays out in real time. While Chen may have some inside scoop, she finds out who is eliminated and who ultimately wins when the audience does. The unknown factor of the competition is what keeps the game exciting for Chen. “We have seen every type of person win Big Brother,” she said. “From master strategists to masters at flying under the radar and everything in between, we can never predict who will win the game.”
While the series has included many twists and surprises, such as twins playing as one contestant, double eliminations, and celebrity siblings, one moment stands out among the rest of them for Chen. The most shocking moment of the series for the host happened in Season 14 when Dan Gheesling held his own funeral. “And it worked! His funeral brought him back to life,” she reminisced.
While not much is known about the upcoming season, the one thing fans can count on is always being surprised. Big Brother returns to CBS on Wednesday, June 28 at 8/7c.
