“One nation, Underwood.” As the May 30 premiere date for season five of House of Cards gets closer, Netflix has released a new trailer for the show, Variety reports.
The new season appears to be a battle for the White House, as season four finished shortly after the Democratic and Republican conventions, where Frank (Kevin Spacey) and Claire (Robin Wright) Underwood became the Democratic presidential and vice presidential nominees, respectively. The two of them will square off against Will Conway (Joel Kinnaman) to keep control of the White House in the new season.
The trailer features Frank talking throughout as clips of the new season are shown, such as people holding signs protesting against the Underwoods and an electoral map showing Ohio and Pennsylvania still being undecided.
The fifth season will also feature Michael Kelly, Jayne Atkinson, Neve Campbell, Derek Cecil and Paul Sparks, who are all returning this season.
This will be the first season that show creator Beau Willimon won’t be serving as showrunner, as he stepped down shortly before the fourth season was released for streaming last year. Melissa James Gibson and Frank Pugliese are co-showrunners of the show and will also serve as executive producers.
House of Cards will be released on Netflix starting on Tuesday, May 30.
