Though The 100 faced a drop in popularity and an increase in criticism with the death of key character and Commander Lexa in Season 3, Season 4 has enjoyed a stable viewership and The 100 will be returning next season according to Variety.
All of The CW’s shows that involve heroes and vigilantes in tights have been renewed. Among the non-superhero themed shows renewed on the The CW are The 100, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, and Jane the Virgin. In a surprise comeback, NBC’s cancelled show Constantine, which was based on a DC Comic character, will be rebooted on The CW as an animated seed show, per TV Line. Constantine will have around seven episodes of only ten minutes each. Finally, Supernatural was also renewed for an impressive thirteenth season. No Tomorrow and Frequency have not been given any official orders, so should be treated as cancelled, according to Variety.
The 100 is a sci-fi series based on books by Kass Morgan which built on the premise that when Earth became uninhabited due to nuclear war, humanity took to living in space. In order to preserve resources on the space station, 100 young criminals were sent to a presumed uninhabitable Earth in Season 1. They found that not only was it inhabitable, but had been all along for several distinct populations on the ground. Tensions between “Sky People” and “Grounders” continued to mount and erupt in violence, complicated by the schemes of a sentient artificial intelligence: ALIE.
Among lead characters surprisingly still alive from Season 1 are Clarke (Eliza Taylor) and Abbey Griffin (Paige Turco), Bellamy (Bob Morley) and Octavia Blake (Marie Avgeroppulos), Jaha (Isaiah Washington), Raven (Lindsey Morgan), and John Murphy (Richard Harmon).
We don’t know when to expect Season 5, as Season 1 premiered in March, Season 2 in October, Season 3 in January, and Season 4 in February. The new season will probably the pattern of the first four and contain from 13 to 16 episodes in which plots are hatched, revealed, fail, and along the way claim lives or get our favorite characters sentenced to death.
If you haven’t seen Season 4 or want a reminder of what has led The 100 to where the story is now, you can find Seasons 1-5 on The CW App or website. Seasons 1-3 are currently on Netflix, but we may not see Season 4 up until October 2017.
