One of HBO’s popular shows Veep is a comedic political satire about the political happenings and pitfalls of Washington D.C. and the presidential sphere. The show was actually originally adapted from a British sitcom titled The Thick of It. Julia Louis-Dreyfus portrays Selina Meyer, a Vice President and eventual President. However, Season 6 brings a new challenge for Selina Meyer: being the ex-president. After the legacy left by her administration and term as first woman president, Meyer is looking for a new mission.
Between the premiere of Big Little Lies and and the most recent episode of Girls, HBO aired the first official teaser for Season 6 of Veep, per Screen Rant. In the trailer ex-President Meyer brings her wit back to the camera, saying “I was the first female president and I will not work for less than 87 cents on the dollar” as she engages in her “second act.” Already known for its comedy, Veep shows off snippets of more laughable moments in the new teaser trailer, reminding viewers of all the times the show has tickled their funny bones since its premiere in 2012.
According to TV Series Finale, last season of Veep saw an increase in ratings: an impressive feat for a Season 5 which Screen Rant praised as one of the best seasons for Veep. And Julia Louis-Dreyfus has received a lot of positive feedback for her engaging performance in the political satire and comedic talent, helping contribute to the Season 6 renewal. Season 6 will likely have to come to terms with modern political events as well as finding a new career path for the woman who is no longer “VP” or even “P.” Though the strangeness of life-after-presidency will give writers a whole new host of awkward and humorous situations.
Season 5 concluded on June 26, 2016, and Season 6 of Veep will premiere on April 16, 2017 on HBO. Like Seasons 2 through 5, it will be ten episodes long. Those with access to HBO Go can catch up with every season of Veep so far, or binge watch this April before it returns to the air.
