We’re about a month out from the premiere of Luke Cage and Netflix isn’t going to let us forget that anytime soon.
This weekend, the online streaming behemoth released a short scene from the upcoming superhero series, and suddenly we remember why we are looking forward to September. This is the second trailer Netflix has released this month for Luke Cage.
Check out the clip below.
“I guess you guys haven’t heard about me, have you?” Uh, well, the guys shooting at you may not but we certainly have.
Luke Cage (Mike Coulter) was first introduced in Jessica Jones which premiered last November on Netflix. Cage was introduced as Jessica’s boyfriend/love interest, but he’s been destined to have his own series for a while.
Luke Cage is something we’ve been waiting for ever since the success of Daredevil. Netflix’s master plan is to create four individual series which will culminate in a collaboration project called Marvel’s Defenders. Luke Cage is the third installment in the Defenders project which will feature Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist.
As you can see from the trailer, Luke Cage, like Jessica Jones, has superhuman abilities. After being involved in an experiment gone wrong, Cage finds he has super strength and unbreakable skin. Although sadly his wardrobe isn’t as bulletproof. The series will, of course, focus on Cage who, despite being a fugitive, is trying to rebuild his life. But it wouldn’t be a superhero series if something didn’t drive Luke Cage to pick up the hero mantel (or hoodie).
Mahershala Ali will play Cornell “Cottonmouth” Stokes, one of Cage’s adversaries. Alfre Woodard has been cast as Stokes’ cousin and local politician, Mariah Dillard, who is on a mission to clean up her hometown. Cage’s nemesis, Shades/Alvarez, will be played by Theo Rossi, and Simone Missick has been cast as Misty Knight. We will also see Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple, the same role she played in Daredevil, in Luke Cage.
Luke Cage will premiere on September 20 only on Netflix.
