Earlier this past week, Variety reported that actress Freida Pinto, most notably remembered for her role in the very successful Slumdog Millionaire, was officially on-board to join the miniseries Guerrilla.
Pinto will be joining executive producer Edris Elba in the Showtime-Sky show. The miniseries is going to be written, directed and also executive produced by John Ridley who actually won an Oscar for ‘Best Adapted Screenplay’ in connection with 12 Years A Slave.
In a statement from Sky, in regards to what the story is, they said the dramatic series will focus on a couple, Jas and Marcus, who are pushed away from political activism and pushed towards radical militancy.
Pinto, who has credits in You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger and Knight of Cups, will play Jas. The role of Marcus has yet to be officially cast however Edris is set to executive produce the miniseries through his company Green Door Pictures.
The first two episodes and the finale will be directed by Ridley, who is also credited with writing the majority of the episodes. Besides the first two episodes and the finale, Sam Miller will be taking over the directing power for the remainder of the series.
When speaking of the story, Sky had this to say about the main characters,
“[Jas and Marcus’] relationship and values are tested when they liberate a political prisoner and form a radical underground cell in 1970s London. Their ultimate target becomes the Black Power Desk, a true-life, secretive counter-intelligence unit within Special Branch dedicated to crushing all forms of black activism.”
Sky went on to say that, “At its heart ‘Guerrilla’ is about a relationship under pressure, and the reality that for any couple there comes a point when the choices they make have real and lasting consequences.”
Joining Ridley and Elba as executive producers of the miniseries are executive producers: Tracy Underwood for ABC Signature, Patrick Spence and Katie Swinden for Fifty Fathoms, and Michael McDonald for Stearns Castle.
Production on the series is set to begin filming laster this summer however there is no official premiere date for the time period drama.
