Marvel’s Netflix collaboration keeps getting more exciting. The third of the series that Netflix is developing, Luke Cage, has cast Alfre Woodward in an important role.
Woodward (State Of Affairs) is nearing a deal to join the series expected to come in 2016, according to Deadline. She would join Mike Colter on Luke Cage. Colter will debut his character first on Jessica Jones, the next to be released installment of Marvel works on Netflix.
Jessica Jones will encounter Cage during her work as an investigator. Cage has a dark past and developed super strength after an experiment gone wrong. He becomes a hero for hire in New York City. Cage will alter the path of Jones in ways she could never have imagined, according to The Hollywood Reporter. We reported in-depth on the known details of Jessica Jones here.
Woodward will make her appearance in the Luke Cage series coming in 2016. Her character, Minetta, is described as a powerful woman in local politics who will have a big impact on Cage’s life. Deadline speculates that this role may be the comic book villain Black Mariah. In the comic books, she is a key foe for Luke Cage and Iron Fist (also getting a Netflix series) as a professional criminal and drug dealer.
Cheo Hodari Coker serves as showrunner on Luke Cage which is expected in 2016. Until then, Jessica Jones is expected to premiere on Netflix later this year and the second season of Daredevil will come in 2016.
