Aaron Paul is joining Hulu’s new original series The Way.
The Emmy winning actor known for his role on Breaking Bad will play the male lead on the hourlong drama. He will star opposite of Michelle Monaghan (True Detective) as her husband, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The Way follows a family in the middle of a controversial faith-based movement called The Way as they struggle with relationships, marriage, and power. Each episode will examine what it means to chose between the life you live and the life you want, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Paul will play Eddie Clearly who is a supportive husband to Monaghan’s Sarah and a longtime member of The Way. Eddie turned to The Way after his upbringing in a troubled blue-collar household, hoping to find a way out. After returning from a retreat with fellow members of the movement he becomes distant and emotionless having been affected by what he witnessed while on the trip.
His wife Sarah worries he is having an affair when he begins sneaking off. In reality, Eddie is secretly meeting up with a mystery person who claims to know the truth about The Way. Eddie struggles to maintain appearances and continue to be a member of The Way with his family as he faces the truth that may destroy what he believes, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The Way comes from Jason Katims (Friday Night Lights) and his production company True Jack Productions along with creator Jessica Goldberg (Parenthood) and True Jack Productions head of development Michelle Lee. Goldberg will write and executive produce the series along with Katims and Lee. Mike Cahill (Another Earth) will direct the pilot. Paul will also serve as a producer on the series. Paul’s production company Lucid Road Productions has made a first look deal with Universal Television, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The 10-episode series will begin production this summer and will premiere on Hulu in the winter.
