*Spoiler*
The long-awaited Marvel mini-series VisionQuest has debuted with its first two episodes, and it has already taken a surprising turn. According to Comicbook, the series focuses mostly on White Vision, played by Paul Bettany (Legion, Avengers: Age of Ultron), as he tries to understand his true identity after the events in Westview in WandaVision. He also communicates with the other AI personas in his program.
The twist revealed is the potential return of the Scarlet Witch, aka Wanda, played by Elizabeth Olsen (Godzilla, Avengers: Endgame), who was presumed dead at the end of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. As stated by Comicbook, a similar question was asked by Billy Maximoff, played by Joe Locke (Heartstopper, Kevin), who directly asked Agatha, played by Kathyrn Hans (Wanderlust, Brooklyn Nine-Nine), if Wanda was truly dead, to which she gave mixed answers of yes, no, and maybe.
As reported by Comicbook, the clue fans have been using to theorize about her return came when the series antagonist, Paladin, stated that when hexes, magic, and witches are involved, “something survives.” Another scene that mentions the Scarlet Witch’s name is the pivotal conversation between Vision and Thomas Shepherd, portrayed by Ruaridh Mollica (Too Rough, Stonemouth), who carries the reincarnated soul of Tommy Maximoff within him. This sparks an argument between the two that leads right back to Wanda. Thomas is confused about his identity and these new memories, and all he wants are answers.
This marks the final chapter centered on the Maximoffs, taking us from the chaotic reality-warping of WandaVision to the dark, mystical depths of Agatha All Along.
The series has confirmed Wanda’s physical demise, but Thomas words and presence serve as proof of her lingering influence, teasing a hopeful return of the famed sorceress in future projects. With six more episodes to go, VisionQuest will not only explore more of Vision’s emotional journey of self-discovery, but also give a broader scope of what lies ahead in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
