Peacock revealed the first episode of the upcoming series Crystal Lake to fans during the 2027 New York Comic Con, along with cast members of the series making an appearance. The series is a prequel to the known Friday the 13th franchise, showing the origins of Jason Voorhees.
*Spoilers Ahead* The panel started by showing the first episode of the series, explaining the plot and what is to come from it. The episode opened with a young Jason and his mother, Pamela Voorhees, at Camp Crystal Lake in New Jersey, showing how lively and vibrant the camp is, with counselors and kids running around. The other kids made fun of Jason for his deformed, large head, keeping him separate from the other kids and counselors. Eventually, Jason was playing by the lake with no supervision, as the counselors were too distracted by the affliction of youth. Many believed he drowned and died but his mother knew otherwise, believing that her son was still alive.
Nine months later, his mother finds out they reopen the camp, despite the fact that she believes her son may still be out there. His mother becomes enraged and storms out on many in the town as she returns home to find two officers there to ask her questions. This leads to an altercation where she ends up killing both and then taking their bodies into the woods and covering them with honey and other things so they could be eaten by a bear.
After the episode concludes, the cast of the series comes out on stage. The cast includes Linda Cardellini (Avengers: Age of Ultron, Creature Commandos), William Catlett (A Thousand and One, Charm City Kings), Devin Kessler (Godfather of Harlem, Baby Not This Time), Cameron Scoggins (Shade of Blue, The Happy Sad), Gwendolyn Sundstrom (I Don’t Think I Believe in Love, I’m Beginning to See the Light) and Callum Vinson (Poker Face, Chucky). They speak about how they wanted the series to be its own thing while still taking from all the films in the franchise. Creator Brad Caleb Kane (The Banker, Aladdin) stated how he wanted Pamela Voorhees to have more of a story in this series, as she doesn’t have much in any other adaptation of the franchise. The panel concluded with the cast answering some questions from the fans.
Crystal Lake will be an eight-episode horror-drama prequel series that premieres on Peacock on October 15, 2026.
