Apple TV has released the official trailer for Brothers, its upcoming comedy series starring Matthew McConaughey (Interstellar, Mud, Magic Mike) and Woody Harrelson (No Country for Old Men, Natural Born Killers, Now You See Me). According to ScreenRant, the eight-episode series will premiere on September 23 with its first two episodes.
McConaughey and Harrelson play fictionalized versions of themselves in the series. The story follows Woody and his family as they move into Matthew’s ranch in Austin, Texas, where the longtime friends begin to question whether they could actually be brothers.
The trailer features Holland Taylor (The Morning Show, Two and a Half Men, Legally Blonde) as Mrs. McConaughey, who suggests that Matthew and Woody’s tendency to argue like siblings may not be a coincidence. The footage also includes appearances from Dax Shepard (CHIPS, Idiocracy, Hit and Run) and offers a glimpse at the increasingly chaotic lives of the two friends.
The series will also incorporate elements inspired by McConaughey and Harrelson’s real lives. In the trailer, McConaughey references his Academy Award win while joking about Harrelson’s lack of an Oscar. McConaughey won Best Actor for his performance in Dallas Buyers Club, while Harrelson has received nominations for The People vs. Larry Flynt, The Messenger and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.
According to the official synopsis, Woody searches for answers about his possible connection to Matthew while dealing with the aftermath of his daughter’s broken engagement. Meanwhile, Matthew considers running for governor of Texas as the pair navigate friendship, family, fame and the increasingly blurred line between reality and fiction.
The cast also includes Natalie Martinez (Death Race, Bad Monkey, Broken City), Brittany Ishibashi (Runaways, Grace and Frankie, Tom Swift), Nolan Almeida (Fish, Christmas on Repeat), Ella Grace Helton (Sweet Magnolias, United We Fall, Hubie Halloween), Noah Carganilla (Brothers), Highdee Kuan (The Brothers Sun, You, This Is Us) and Oona Yaffe (Sleepy Hollow, One True Loves, Before You Know It).
Lee Eisenberg (The Office, Year One, Little America) serves as showrunner after taking over the position from David West Read (Schitt’s Creek, The Big Door Prize, All That She Wants). The series reunites McConaughey and Harrelson following their previous collaborations in EDtv, Surfer, Dude and the first season of True Detective.
Brothers premieres September 23 on Apple TV with two episodes, followed by weekly installments through November 4.
