Production on the the upcoming third season of HBO’s apocalypse series, The Last of Us is officially underway, with new video footage has been revealed across social media hinting a surprising character revival. According to Screenrant, the character that will be making a surprise return is Jesse, played by Young Mazino (Beef, Opus), last seen in the second season finale in which he met a tragic end at the hands of Abby, played by Kaitlyn Dever (Booksmart, Justified)
According to Screenrant, Jesse first appeared in the beginning of the second season as a patrol leader and loyal friend to Ellie, portrayed by Bella Ramsey (Game of Thrones, His Dark Materials). Newly released footage reveals the character’s return as he runs past abandoned buildings, leading many fans to speculate that this is a key flashback of him and Tommy, played by Gabriel Luna (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Terminator: Dark Fate) on an important run mission

It would appear for this season, the team are attempting to shift to explore more of the side characters, with what Tommy and the resident of Jackson Community has done. According to mxdwn, while specific plot details for the upcoming third season remain closely guarded, the narrative will focus heavily on Abby’s origin story. The season is set to chronicle her formative years within the Fireflies during the outbreak’s early days, tracing her transformation into the formidable, battle-hardened soldier she eventually becomes.
These added scene will give a wider scope on what driving both sides in achieving their goals, while at the same time give more information on the character. While an official release date for season three has not been announced, it is scheduled to premiere in 2027. In the meantime, fans can stream the first two seasons of The Last of Us on HBO Max.
