Episode 1 begins with the planet express crew bringing a gravity pump through the Coney Island carnival, and to the Coney Island Community College nearby. After they bring it to Dr. Carny, the crew plays some rigged carnival games, and head to the Wiener museum. There, it is revealed that Fry was great at hot dog eating, but was defeated by Brocky J.
The crew then take Fry to a hot dog stand to see if he’s still got the moves (he used to be able to eat hot dogs whole), but he chokes on the dog. Confused as to why it didn’t work, Professor Farnsworth explains that since cows have gone extinct, hot dogs are now made from plants, and plant byproducts. Later on, Professor Farnworth says that the cow may be extinct, but it’s DNA may still exist somewhere, specifically in mosquitos frozen in amber in Brazil.
After finding a mosquito, they extract the blood and put it into a cloner. After 3 or 5 business days, the clone machine doors open, which reveal thousands of mosquitoes instead of a few cows. Farnsworth realizes he must have cloned mosquito DNA instead of cow DNA. After Hermes lights up some Jamaican citronella, Amy gets an idea to steal the undercooked hot dog that killed Brocky J. since it may still have the cow DNA needed.
After getting it, they put the DNA in the cloner and get the cows they were looking for. Fry then has a change of heart, and lets the cows go free, though they end up getting hit by cars. Fry then wishes beef could be made without cows, which gives Farnsworth the idea to grow the meat. After the meat is grown, they end up creating farn-dogs,100% meat-based veggie dogs. With the return of the hot dogs Fry can eat, the hot dog eating contests that were discontinued are brought back.
At the contest, Fry and the other contestants get ready to dig in, when there is suddenly a late entry, a human hot dog version of Brocky J. Farnsworth explains that the hot dog they used to make the meat had a bit of Brocky’s saliva still on it, mixing with the cow DNA to create him. With that, the contest begins, which comes down to just Brocky and Fry. Suddenly Brocky gets a severe stomachache and asks Fry to eat him to put him out of his misery. Fry at first objects, but does it to end his suffering, which also makes Fry the winner of the contest.
This episode wasn’t too bad to start the season. It had its moments, like the cows getting run over, and the hot dog clone of Brocky J. It was also funny how they were sort of making fun of plant-based meat and lab grown meat as well. It might not have been as strong a start as the first episode of season 13, but it was still a good episode to start nonetheless.
