
Apple TV’s Murderbot has expanded its cast ahead of its second season. According to Deadline, Steve Buscemi (Fargo, Reservoir Dogs, The Death of Stalin), Wanda Sykes (Evan Almighty, Bad Moms, The Upshaws), Patton Oswalt (Young Adult, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, The Dink), Martha Plimpton (The Goonies, Running on Empty, Beautiful Girls), Bridget Everett (Somebody Somewhere, Wake Up Dead Man, Little Evil), Michael Sheen (Midnight in Paris, The Queen, Out There), Tramell Tillman (Severance, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Godfather of Harlem), Blair Underwood (Deep Impact, Rules of Engagement, Just Cause) and Brendan Hunt (Ted Lasso, Bless This Mess, Elio) are among the new additions.
The new cast members join returning star Alexander Skarsgård (Big Little Lies, True Blood, The Legend of Tarzan), who portrays the titular security construct and also serves as an executive producer. Noma Dumezweni (The Little Mermaid, Dirty Pretty Things, Mary Poppins Returns), David Dastmalchian (Oppenheimer, Dune: Part One, Late Night with the Devil), Sabrina Wu (Joy Ride, Dying for Sex, Abbott Elementary), Akshay Khanna (Andor, Polite Society, Row), Tattiawna Jones (Washington Black, Station Eleven, Wayward) and Tamara Podemski (Reservation Dogs, Outer Range, The Borderline) are also set to return.
Clark Gregg (The Avengers, Choke, The New Adventures of Old Christine), John Cho (Star Trek, Searching, Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle), DeWanda Wise (Jurassic World: Dominion, Someone Great, Fatherhood) and Jack McBrayer (Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Wreck-It Ralph, 30 Rock) will return as recurring guest stars.
Deadline also reported that the lengthy list of new recurring and guest stars includes Britne Oldford (Dead Ringers, The Umbrella Academy, American Horror Story), Damian Young (Edge of Darkness, Red State, The Comeback), Divian Ladwa (Lion, Ant-Man and the Wasp, Black Ops), Ella Jay Basco (Grey’s Anatomy, Ride or Die, A Friend of the Family), Griffin Newman (Disenchanted, Draft Day, The Tick), Jason George (Sunset Beach, Grey’s Anatomy, Station 19), Kali Reis (Catch the Fair One, True Detective, Mercy), Marc Menchaca (Ozark, Homeland, She’s Lost Control), Meredith Salenger (Dream a Little Dream, Lake Placid, The Prank), Nicholas Braun (Succession, Sky High, The Perks of Being a Wallflower) and Topher Grace (Traffic, In Good Company, Spider-Man 3), among others.
Based on Martha Wells’ (All Systems Red, Network Effect, System Collapse) The Murderbot Diaries book series, Murderbot follows a self-hacking security construct that has secretly gained free will. Despite being uncomfortable with human emotions, Murderbot finds itself increasingly connected to the humans it is assigned to protect while attempting to conceal its independence.
Created by Chris Weitz (About a Boy, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, The Golden Compass) and Paul Weitz (About a Boy, In Good Company, About My Father), the series is written, directed and executive produced by the brothers. Andrew Miano (The Farewell, Prospect, A Single Man), Dan Balgoyen (Prospect, The Farewell, Admission), Britta Rowings (Fatherhood, Crush, Afraid), David S. Goyer (Dark City, The Dark Knight, The Sandman) and Keith Levine (The First Omen, 47 Meters Down, The Night House) also serve as executive producers. Wells serves as a consulting producer.
The first season of Murderbot premiered on Apple TV in 2025 and earned an Emmy nomination before the series was renewed for a second season. Details regarding the storyline for the upcoming installment have not yet been announced.
