Deadline has reported that after a long period of deliberation, DINKS has received a green light at Amazon. Two years after its purchase, the improv comedy series is set to go ahead. June Diane Raphael (Mating Season, Forgetting Sarah Marshall) and Paul Scheer (Black Monday, Fresh Off The Boat) spearhead the project. Marta Kaufman (Joey, Dream On), one of the names recognized from Bright Kaufman Crane that played after every episode of Friends announced the pilot order in 2024.
Even if you don’t know his name, you likely recognize Scheer’s face. He is perhaps most known for his role as Andre from the FX fantasy football sitcom The League. The league also employed heavy use of improv during its run. Raphael is another comedy veteran who can be recognized for her role as Dr. Sadie from New Girl.
DINKS is an acronym short for Dual Income No Kids. It’s a term that has become popular for couples in their 30s and beyond who do not bear the financial responsibilities of children. The series will be a mixture of a multi-camera sitcom and improv comedy. It follows a couple played by Scheer and Raphael who use their excess income from not having children and attempt to renovate their home into the house they have always dreamed of.
The series is co-created by Kaufman, who more recently brought fans the Netflix comedy Grace and Frankie. Her co-creator for the series is Hannah K.S. Canter (Grace And Frankie, Seeing Allred). Executive producers for the series include Kaufman, Canter, Scheer, Raphael, Robbie Rowe Tollin (The Zookeepers Wife, Grace And Frankie) , and Jesse Schiller (Cougar Town, Grace And Frankie). Production companies for the series are Kaufman’s Okay Goodnight, Lionsgate Pictures, and Amazon MGM. The series was previously sold to CBS in 2023 as a proof of concept.
