NBCUniversal’s streaming service, Peacock will be bundled with users who have Youtube Premium at no extra cost. This new partnership will give a significant boost to subscribers for Peacock.
For those who don’t know, Peacock is a streaming service owned by NBCUniversal and features next day access to all of your favorite NBC shows. Youtube Premium is a subscription service on Youtube that gives its viewers ad-free videos, background play, and offline downloads. Peacock has managed to turn a profit for six years into its existence. The streaming service managed to amass 48 million subscribers and both Comcast Co-CEOs Mike Cavanagh and Brian Roberts had decided to explore a variety of potential partnerships. Roberts reached out to Youtube’s CEO Neal Mohan more than nine months ago to initiate talks, the goal was to increase the access to Peacock and NBCU’s other streamers outside the US.
According to Deadline, Comcast CEO Cavanagh issued this statement regarding the partnership: “This partnership brings NBCUniversal’s world-class content and iconic franchises to YouTube’s unmatched scale and global platforms,” Cavanagh said in a statement. “We’re excited to deepen our relationship with YouTube through a collaboration that reflects our strategy of partnering with industry leaders to drive sustained growth for NBCUniversal.” Once the deal goes through Youtube Premium will add millions of subscribers to Peacock.
Deadline added this statement from Mohan where he had this to say regarding the partnership: “Mohan said the expanded partnership will ‘redefine what a modern entertainment subscription can be for consumers.’ The partnership ‘makes it easier than ever for our members to find and watch all the premium content they love, all in one place.’” Youtube was not the first partnership NBCUniversal went to, Peacock has forged a streaming bundle with Apple TV last fall, there was also a distribution pact made between Peacock and Amazon, and Peacock has also teamed up with Starz to add a subscription sign up feature to Peacock’s home screen.
The deal between Youtube and NBCUniversal will go into effect early next year.
