Netflix has given a straight-to-series order to the upcoming golf drama Jupiter Island. According to Deadline, the series comes from Connor Hines (Space Force, Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette, Dollface) and A24. Netflix has also signed an overall deal with Hines to exclusively develop new television series for the streaming platform. 

Written by Hines, Jupiter Island is loosely inspired by real-life events and figures within the world of professional golf. The series takes place on the exclusive Florida island and follows the privileged lives of professional golfers and their wives. Their world begins to unravel following the arrival of a mysterious outsider and the emergence of a secret that threatens one of golf’s most powerful couples. 

Hines will serve as writer and showrunner on the series. He will also executive produce alongside Julie Gardner (Doctor Who, Torchwood, Red Eye) of Bad Wolf America. A24 will serve as the studio behind the project. 

Jupiter Island marks Netflix’s latest scripted project centered on professional golf. The streaming platform is also preparing to premiere the Will Ferrell (Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, Blades of Glory) golf comedy series The Hawk on July 16. Netflix also releases the professional golf documentary series Full Swing. 

Hines recently created and executive produced FX’s Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette. The limited series earned seven Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series. Hines wrote five of the series’ nine episodes and co-wrote a sixth. 

Starring Sarah Pidgeon (I Know What You Did Last Summer, Tiny Beautiful Things, Gotham) and Paul Anthony Kelly (Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette, Body Language), Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette follows the relationship between John F. Kennedy Jr. and Calvin Klein executive Carolyn Bessette. The series became FX’s most-watched limited series on Hulu and Disney+.

Hines began his television writing career on the Netflix comedy Space Force, created by Steve Carell (The Office, Rooster, The Four Seasons) and Greg Daniels (The Office, Parks & Recreation, King of the Hill). He also served as a writer on the upcoming Apple TV limited series Wild Things, starring Jude Law (The Talented Mr. Ripley, Closer, Black Rabbit) and Andrew Garfield (Hacksaw Ridge, The Amazing Spider-Man, The Social Network). 

A premiere date and additional casting details for Jupiter Island have not yet been announced.
