Netflix’s latest adaptation of a Harlan Coben (“Run Away,” “Tell No One,” “No Second Chance”) novel has received a mixed response from viewers following its debut. According to ScreenRant, the eight-episode crime thriller I Will Find You currently holds a 59% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. However, critics have awarded the series a slightly higher score of 65%.
Based on Coben’s novel of the same name, I Will Find You stars Sam Worthington (Avatar, Clash of the Titans, Terminator Salvation) as David Burroughs, a father serving a prison sentence for the murder of his son. The story takes a dramatic turn when David receives information suggesting that his son may still be alive, prompting him to search for the truth while attempting to clear his name.
Additional cast members include Britt Lower (Severance, High Maintenance, Man Seeking Woman), Milo Ventimiglia (Heroes, This Is Us, Gamer), Logan Browning (Bratz, Dear White People, Powers), Erin Richards (Gotham, The Crown, Breaking In), and Jonathan Tucker (The Ruins, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Hostage).
The series premiered on Netflix on June 18 and marks the latest collaboration between the streaming service and Coben. Since signing a development deal with Netflix in 2018, numerous adaptations of the author’s novels have been released on the platform, including Safe, Stay Close, Fool Me Once, and Missing You.
According to ScreenRant, audience reactions to I Will Find You have been very mixed. Some viewers have criticized the series for its twists and familiar storytelling approach. However, other viewers have given the series a more positive review praising the series for its suspenseful narrative and fast-paced storytelling style. ScreenRant also noted that the audience score could likely change in the coming weeks as more viewers watch and review the series.
Coben also revealed that discussions regarding the adaptation began long before the novel was officially published, highlighting his close involvement in the project’s development. The author also serves as an executive producer on the series alongside Nicola Shindler (It’s a Sin, Finding Alice, Happy Valley), Richard Fee (Fool Me Once, After the Flood, The Stranger), and Danny Brocklehurst (Brassic, The Stranger, Ten Pound Poms).
While the reception to I Will Find You has been mixed so far, the series continues Netflix’s long-running partnership with Coben, whose mystery adaptations have become a regular fixture on the streaming platform.
