Apple TV+ crime thriller series Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed is already off to a strong start following its debut on the streaming platform. According to Screen Rant, the series premiered with a 92% “Certified Fresh” critic score on Rotten Tomatoes after the release of its first two episodes.  

The dark comedy thriller stars Tatiana Maslany (Perry Mason, Stronger, Orphan Black) as Paula, a divorced single mother attempting to uncover the truth after webcam model Trevor seemingly disappears during an online conversation with her. Brandon Flynn (13 Reasons Why, The Parenting, True Detective) stars as Trevor, while Jake Johnson (New Girl, Self Reliance, Jurassic World) portrays Paula’s ex-husband Karl. 

Additional cast members include Jessy Hodges (Barry, Indebted, Hindsight), Nola Wallace (The Strangers: Chapter 2, Hoteling, The Strangers: Chapter 3), Dolly de Leon (Triangle of Sadness, Nine Perfect Strangers, Jackpot!), Jon Michael Hill (Widows, Elementary, Falling Overnight), and Murray Bartlett (The White Lotus, The Last of Us, Nine Perfect Strangers). 

Several critics praised Maslany’s performance and the show’s fast-paced storytelling following the premiere. Reviews highlighted the thriller’s unpredictable twists, dark comedic tone, and the suspenseful season finale. Some critics described the series as another strong addition to Apple TV+’s growing lineup of crime thrillers alongside shows including Slow Horses, Presumed Innocent, and Black Bird. 

The series was created by David J. Rosen (Sugar, Us & Them, Citadel), who recently described the show as “enjoyable anxiety” in an interview with Screen Rant. Rosen also explained that the unusual half-hour thriller format was chosen to create a more fast-paced and “propulsive” viewing experience.

Maslany is best known for starring as multiple clone characters throughout Orphan Black, a performance that earned her a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. Meanwhile, Johnson’s previous credits include Jurassic World, New Girl, and the animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse films.
