MGM+ is working on a remake series for The Magnificent Seven. So far the project has managed to find a new cast member, Michael Ealy (The Terminal List: Dark Wolf, Power Book II: Ghost).
For those who don’t know, the story of The Magnificent Seven involves seven skilled gunslingers who have been hired by the desperate townspeople in order to protect them from a ruthless bandit leader. The IP has been through many remakes the latest being in 2016 involving Denzel Washington (Highest 2 Lowest), Ethan Hawke (The Weight, The Lowdown), and Chris Pratt (The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, Mercy). According to Deadline, Ealy will play the character Vin Tanner, the character was originally played by Steve McQueen (The Hunter, Tom Horn) in the 1960 film. The logline for the series is that the series is set in the 1880s American Frontier, where the seven gifted but flawed mercenaries have been hired to protect a peaceful Quaker village after it was massacred by mercenaries who are working for a ruthless land baron who is trying to seize the land. The series will explore the backstories of each of the Seven, we will see what’s at stake for each member as well as why they choose to take on the mission. Ealy’s next project will be him playing Malcom X in the Amazon limited series The Greatest with executive producer Michael B. Jordan (Swapped, Sinners).
The cast so far consists of Matt Dillon (The Fence, Eavesdropper) and Will Patton (You Can’t Win, Train Dreams). Tim Kring (Confessions, Treadstone) will serve as the showrunner for the series and the executive producers are Donald De Line (Billy the Kid, Little Wing), Bruce Kaufman (The Magnificent Seven, Five Angry Women), and Lawerence Mirisch (In Memory Of, Her Name Was Moviola).
The series will have a total of eight episodes once production is done. We will have to wait for an official trailer for the series.
