According to The Hollywood Reporter, Prime Video canceled The Runarounds after one season. The series aired on the streamer in September and after that, there were no words on its continuation. Coming from the creators of Outer Banks, Jonas (Deceiver, Shrink) and Josh Pate (Good vs Evil, Falling Skies), who formed a real-life rock band to star at the center of the musical coming-of-age drama.

“Today, we found out as many of you did that The Runarounds TV show will not be coming back for a season 2,” the band wrote on Instagram via The Hollywood Reporter. “First and foremost we want you to know that while the TV sieres may have come to a close, as a band we’re here to stay. This is merely the end of one chapter and the beginning of a new one. We want to extend a massive thank you to everyone who helped in creating the first season of the show, from our cast and crew to everyone behind the scenes who believed in this and brought it to life.”

As per The Hollywood Reporter, Jonas expressed how he had a five-season plan for The Runarounds. Season two would have followed the group in a “super crappy van on the regional tour playing colleges and 200 capacity rooms.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, He had plans for season three to track the group opening for another band on a European tour before the fourth installment would position them as “a headliner with 5,000 capacity rooms and all the pressures and issues with fame.” Then the fifth season would have seen the band on a stadium tour.

Via The Hollywood Reporter Jonas explained, “The dream is can I legitimately take this all the way and feel like you actually were in the van with them.”

As per The Hollywood Reporter, the synopsis for the series is as follows: “Over the course of one unforgettable summer, they throw themselves into the pursuit of their big break — falling in love, getting into trouble and building the kind of bonds that feel like family along the way. With original music, romantic entanglements and the raw highs and lows of coming-of-age, The Runarounds captures the rush of risking everything at the edge of adulthood to chase your dreams.”

The Runarounds is still available to stream on Prime Video.
