The second season hasn’t even ended yet for the Emmy-winning ensemble, yet the drama has already spilled out into reality, as reported by TVLine. The Max original series “The Pitt” has announced that fan favorite Dr. Samira Mohan, played by Supriya Ganesh (Grownish, Chicago Med), will be departing the show after the upcoming season finale. The “story-driven” decision, as the studio called it, comes with a simultaneous promotion of Ayesha Harris (Daisy Jones and the Six, Glamorous), who plays the role of Dr. Parker Ellis.
The decision is said to be purely story-based as the show is scheduled around real-life hours and looks to maintain that realistic approach by graduating students from the medical school. Essentially, a rotating door for talent, written into the script. With such an award-winning cast, it’s hard to believe a studio would want to honor the script. However, the season finale, still on the horizon, could clear up some of the reasoning.
With the exit of Ganesh comes the promotion of the night shift lead in Dr. Ellis. Whether or not this signals the third season being shifted to a night setting is purely speculation. With plenty of that brewing up on social media following the shocking news. On r/Fauxmoi, an industry-adjacent gossip site, conversations have begun to circle around whether or not the exit was story-driven or not. With one user, who claims to “work in circles close to production,” going as far as to say the studio has allegedly written Ganesh out for speaking up about being mistreated as a woman of color. They went on to call for more questions to be asked about the second season in a row in which a woman of color lead was “suspiciously and unceremoniously” written out. The mysterious production proximate redditor essentially accuses the studio of allegedly claiming to care about diversity, to use talent as disposable quotas.
