Deadline proudly writes that Sky’s Limited series Amadeus finally has a release date. It will premiere on Starz on May 8th, after the rights were bought by Starz in January.
According to Deadline, the show was based off a 1979 award-winning play written by Peter Shaffer, and translated by Joe Barton. It portrays Will Sharpe (The Electrical Life of Louis Wain, The White Lotus) who plays Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart as well as Paul Bethany (A Beautiful Mind, A Knight’s Tale) who plays Salieri, and Gabrielle Creevy (In My Skin, Black Doves) plays Mozart’s faithful wife, Constanze Weber.
Deadline writes how the five part series will start off with Mozart, in 18th century Vienna, no longer being a musical prodigy, but clashing with his wife and his gracious composer Salieri. A debate forms in Mozart’s head which is to continue to flourish despite his demons and receive a questionable reputation, or continue to torture Salieri by his gift. One thing is clear to everyone who Mozart holds dear, he is a hazard and it all stems from his talent, his belief in God, and reputation. Starting as a rivalry, ends up being a murder confession and part of Mozart’s life forever.
Deadline also notes that Amadeus also stars Rory Kinnear (Bank of Dave 2: The Loan Ranger, The Diplomat) plays Emperor Joseph, Lucy Cohu (Erotic Adventures of Anais Nin, Cape Wrath) plays Cecilia Weber, Jonathan Aris (Red Eye, The Game) plays Leopold Mozart, Ényì Okoronkwo (A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Late) plays Da Ponte, Jessica Alexander (Primate, A Banquet) plays Katerina, Hugh Sachs (Bridgerton, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story) plays Von Strack, Paul Bazely (Such Brave Girls, Funboys) plays Von Swieten, Rupert Vansittart (Heartbeat, Game of Thrones) plays Rosenberg, Anastasia Martin (In From The Cold, Wolves of War) plays Aloysia Weber, Nancy Farino (Scandal, Midnight Ride) plays Josepha Weber, Olivia-Mai Barrett (Savage Flowers, Alex & Co.) plays Sophie Weber, Viola Prettejohn (The Nevers, The Crown) plays Princess Elizabeth, and Jyuddah Jaymes (Sanditon, Clique) as Franz Süssmayr.
Amadeus is filmed by Two Cities Television (part of STV Studios) with Sky Studios. The series is produced by John Griffin (Sleep Stalker, Author Anonymous) and Rupert Lord (Our House: A Musical Love Story, Amadeus). Megan Spanjian (Under Salt Marsh, Atomic) and Paul Gilbert (Up On You, To Be with You) serve other producers for Sky, and Michael Jackson (Birdland, One on Two) and Stephen Wright (When the Leave Blow Away, One Solider) serve as producers standing for Two Cities Television. Julian Farino (Giri/Haji) and Alice Seabright (Chloe, Sex Education) serve as directors. Barton, Sharpe, Bettany and Farino also serve as executive producers. Seabright serves as co-producer. NBCUniversal Global TV Distribution assists with the international sales of Amadeus on behalf of Sky.
