

As reported by Deadline, a new comedy pilot is in early development at FX from Rob Mac (Mythic Quest, The Cool Kids), Jeff Chan (Plus One, In the Dark), and 20th Television. Hopeless (the project’s title) will follow the chaotic whirlwind romance of two people when one uses the other’s phone number as her fake to give out at bars.
Mac is best known for his work as executive producer and starring role on FX’s long-running comedy series It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia and two docuseries on the network with his business partner Ryan Reynolds (Green Lantern, Deadpool) – Via Deadline, Necaxa (featuring the eponymous soccer team) ran its first season last year and Welcome to Wrexham are both projects of Mac’s with the network.
Welcome to Wrexham had recently been renewed for a fifth season days after its fourth season premiered, but there is still no word on whether or not its sibling series Necaxa will return for a second season, reports Deadline.
Deadline reports that, up next for Mac is to EP and star in upcoming FX series Far Cry along with Noah Hawley (Fargo, Alien: Earth) as EP. No release date yet, but writers room is at work to adapt Ubisoft’s global hit video game franchise.

He is joined on this project by writer and director Chan, whose directing credits include Prime Video’s hit series The Summer I Turned Pretty, the CW’s Kung Fu, and episodes of Netflix’s XO, Kitty. Via Deadline, Chan is currently developing an original film at Netflix. His feature debut was directing Plus One, starring Jack Quaid (Scream, The Boys) and Mya Erskine (Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Man Seeking Woman), which debuted at the Tribeca Film Festival.
