For as long as we can remember, Prime Video has been one of the most notable streaming services. However, over time streaming services go through changes, such changes include prices.
For those who don’t know, Prime Video will be introducing a new membership called “Prime Video Ultra.” This plan incorporates ad-free streaming and a subscriber limit of up to five subscribers where the last plan could only hold three. This would cost the Prime Video subscriber $4.99 a month, this is in addition to the price for the Prime Video service without a Prime membership. To put things into perspective, to get Prime Video without ads, Amazon charged their customers $2.99 a month. With this new update, this would be a $2 increase.
According to Variety, Amazon issued this statement regarding the new plan: “Delivering ad-free streaming with premium features requires significant investment, and this structure aligns with other major streaming services while ensuring customers have the flexibility to choose how they want to watch. Prime members will continue to enjoy the core Prime Video benefit, including HD/HDR and now Dolby Vision, at no additional cost with their Prime membership.”
With this price increase, it can almost make a person question whether it is worth it to keep this streaming service around. Variety reports with the price increase there are also additional perks for anyone who uses Prime Video Ultra. Such perks include 4k UHD video that will result in stunning clarity in four times the resolution of HD. There is also Dolby Atmos, which brings an immersive spatial sound which can create a cinematic-like experience for these subscribers. You will also be able to stream up to 100 downloads for licensed content which means even more offline viewing options.
The plan will go into effect on April 10, 2026. In other news, Invincible season four releases next week on March 18, 2026 and the final season of The Boys will follow behind on April 8, 2026.
