Saturday Night Live UK has secured a U.S. streaming home, with Peacock set to carry the British adaptation of the long-running sketch comedy series, according to Deadline. The deal will allow American audiences to watch the show shortly after its broadcast in the United Kingdom.
Deadline reports that the series will premiere in the UK on Sky and the streaming service NOW on March 21, with episodes becoming available on Peacock in the United States beginning March 22. The next-day rollout will allow the program to reach audiences across both markets nearly simultaneously as the iconic comedy format expands internationally.
According to Deadline, like the original NBC series, Saturday Night Live UK will feature a rotating lineup of celebrity hosts and musical guests performing alongside a resident cast in front of a live studio audience. The show will follow the familiar structure of the American version, combining topical sketches, a monologue, musical performances, and a UK-specific version of the franchise’s signature “Weekend Update” segment.
Created by Lorne Michaels (Saturday Night Live, Love, Gilda), who also executive produces the American program, Saturday Night Live UK represents the first official British adaptation of the iconic sketch comedy franchise. Deadline notes, the series is scheduled to premiere on March 21 on Sky and NOW in the UK, with Peacock carrying the show in the United States beginning the following day.
mxdwn has previously followed the development of the British adaptation as it moved toward its premiere. Earlier coverage reported on the release of the show’s first teaser trailer, which introduced the ensemble cast walking through London before delivering the iconic phrase adapted for the series: “Live from London, it’s Saturday night.”
That preview served as the first official introduction to the performers who will headline the program. Additional reporting from mxdwn confirmed the show’s creative leadership, noting that the production had secured a showrunner tasked with bringing a chaotic, energetic tone to the new version.
With its transatlantic release strategy now in place, the upcoming series signals a major expansion of the long-running Saturday Night Live brand as it prepares to introduce a new generation of performers and sketches to audiences on both sides of the Atlantic.
