

After a horrible barn fire on Tuesday in Maryland, Variety reports actor Bobby J. Brown has passed away. According to reports from the Maryland Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, Brown’s cause of death was diffuse thermal injury and smoke inhalation.
Variety writes that Brown’s family members said that Brown entered his barn to start his car. Suddenly, a fire broke out in the barn. Brown reportedly called family for a fire extinguisher, but by the time the family member got to him to help, the barn was full engulfed. Brown’s wife suffered burns trying to save him.
According to Variety, Brown was most known for his role as Officer Bobby Brown in HBO’s The Wire. He also appeared in Law and Order: SUV and had a role playing Sgt. Thomas Allers in the HBO miniseries We Own This City. Other credits included Homicide: Life on the Street, The Corner and Veep as a background character. Brown also has credits in films like Love the Hard Way, My One and Only, and From Within.
Variety also mentions that Brown was born in Washington D.C where he started out as a boxer before becoming an actor. He got into acting after watching Homeboy, a Mickey Rourke (Man of God, The Palace) film.
According to Variety, Brown’s agent Albert Bramante said, “I am upset and saddened. He was such a good actor and person. He was totally dedicated to the craft of acting and was a joy to work with.” Family members added that Brown was a devout Jehovah’s Witness. Funeral arrangements are pending. Brown is survived by his wife and kids.
Brown is just one of four other The Wire actors to pass within the last year. Other include The Residence star Isiah Whitlock Jr. at 71 years old, The Black Phone’s James Ransone at 41 years old, and The Sopranos’ Charley Scalies at 84 years old.
