The 2009 movie Bride Wars is getting redone and made into a television series with Peacock. According to Deadline, Emma Roberts (American Horror Story, Valentine’s Day) is said to star in the show as well as produce it.
According to Deadline, New Regency is the main studio to produce the show and will work with 20th Television Studio as well as UCP. The show will also be assist-produced by Sascha Rothchild (GLOW, XO, Kitty), a multiple Emmy Award winner.
Deadline mentions that the show is slightly different as it is set in North Carolina where a wedding planner and a rival wedding planner battle to organize the same wedding. The two planners clash over many things and try to prove they are the right choice for the bride’s special day.
Deadline writes that the original movie showcased Kate Hudson (Song Sung Blues, Almost Famous) who played Liv, and Anne Hathaway (The Devil Wears Prada, Love & Other Drugs) who played Emma. The two longtime friends turn enemies when they both book The Plaza Hotel on the same day for their separate weddings. Drama ensues as the girls fight over everything leading up to their big days. With each trying to convince the other to move their date, they struggle with losing their friendship forever.
According to Deadline, the producers of Bride Wars are different than the movie. The show includes Arnon Milchan (Ad Astra, Blitz), Yariv Milchan (Occupied City, Watch Dogs), and Natalie Lehmann (Psycho Killer, His House) working for New Regency. Roberts, Karah Preiss (Pillowcase, In a Relationship) and Matt Matruski (Tell Me Lies, First Kill) for Belletrist, and Alexandra Milchan (Goodbye Lover, Paranoia) and Martin Salgo (The Red Sea Diving Resort, Intrusion) for Crescent Line.
Before Bride Wars, viewers can catch Roberts’ return in another franchise. She is set to return to FX’s American Horror Story for season 13, set to arrive late this year.
