Netflix has decided to cancel the anime series Terminator Zero after one season. The series show runner Mattson Tomlin (The Sea Beast, Mother/Android) wrote this statement on X, “I would’ve loved to deliver on the Future War I had planned in season’s 2 and 3, but I’m also very happy with how it feels contained as is.”
For those who didn’t know the series told a story about a soldier that was caught between the future and the past and was sent back in time to change the fate of humanity. The soldier arrives in 1997 to protect a scientist named Malcom Lee who is working to launch a new AI system that is designed to compete with Skynet’s impending attack on humanity. According to Variety, Tomlin mentions he had plans to have the series run for five seasons. Tomlin had this to say about the series fate had it not been canceled, “Maybe someday I’ll do a big thread about the plans I had for the full five season run,” he continued. “The series finale was special and it was part of my pitch to get the job. I’ve written all of the season two scripts and outlined pretty much all of season three…Maybe I will return to that world in a different form. I really do love it, and it was extremely gratifying to see so many people connect with it the way they did.”
The cast consisted of Yûya Uchida (Digimon Beatbreak, Ghost of Yōtei), Hiro Shimono (Gachiakuta, My Hero Academia), Shizuka Ishigami (Sentenced to Be a Hero, Ninja to Gokudou), Saori Hayami (Cosmic Princess Kaguya!, Spy x Family), Toa Yukinari (Sanda, Grand Blue Dreaming), Atsumi Tanezaki (The Darwin Incident, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End), André Holland (The Actor, The Dutchman), Armani Jackson (The Fort, Chad), Sumalee Montano (Jurassic World: Chaos Theory, The Outer Worlds 2), Sonoya Mizuno (House of the Dragon, Star Wars: Visions), Rosario Dawson (Ahoska, Charlotte’s Web), and Carter Rockwood (Firebuds, Sacrilege: Curse of the Mbirwi).
The series maybe canceled but that shouldn’t stop you from watching it on Netflix.
