ATX TV Festival’s 15th season has added new programming to its May 28-31 event. Joining the previously announced Friday Night Lights 20th Anniversary Celebration is another milestone birthday for a beloved sitcom.
According to the press release, Phil Rosenthal (Somebody Feed Phil, Exporting Raymond) and Ray Romano (Men of a Certain Age, The Big Sick) will join the TV lovers for a 30th anniversary conversation about Everybody Loves Raymond. The CBS comedy recently celebrated a two-part reunion special on the network. Titled “Everybody (Still) Loves Raymond: A Night of Comedy with Phil Rosenthal, Ray Romano and Writers”, the program will explore personal stories and anecdotes that inspired some of the most memorable and relatable scenes. Debuting in 1996, the show earned 15 Emmys and 69 total nominations.
For lovers of period English dramas, BritBox will make its festival debut with an advanced screening of a new series, The Other Bennet Sister. Based on the novel by Janice Hadlow (The Six Wives of Henry VIII, Woman’s Hour) the show explores Mary Bennet, the forgotten middle sister in Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. Immediately following the screening, series star Ella Bruccoleri (Call the Midwife, Paddington in Peru) will join a Q&A on the show’s reimagining of these iconic characters, its romance and drama themes, and its place in the world of literary adaptations.
Additional programming just announced includes the following:
- “Conversation on Medical Accuracy on TV” — the festival has partnered with The John Ritter Foundation for Aortic Health to present this critical conversation about the importance of medical accuracy on TV. A yet to be announced panel will discuss how medical series impact viewer’s health and their relationship with the healthcare system.
- “A Nuclear Renaissance on TV: How Atomic Storylines Can Save Us From Armageddon” — hosted by the nonproft, nonpartisan Nuclear Threat Initiative (NIT), a panel will talk TV’s legacy of shaping public opinion and policy change on nuclear threats, and how creators are drawn to these storylines that feel more like reality by the day.
- “Around the TV Set” — the festival will partner with the Television Critics Association for an interactive, topical roundtable about industry treads, the shows of the moment, and the evolving art of TV criticism and reporting. Participants to be announced.
- “Lead with Kindness” Vodcast with Melinda Hsu — Showrunner/writer/producer Melinda Hsu will do a live recording of her vodcast with special Hollywood guest. The pair will discuss how leading with kindness is good for the TV business, giving attendees a preview of the workplace culture.
The highly anticipated FNL anniversary reunion has added three more cast members to the event. Gaius Charles (Salt, Takers), Jesse Plemons (Bugonia, Killers of the Flower Moon) and Aimee Teegarden (Notorious, Star-Crossed) will now join previously mentioned Kyle Chandler (Early Edition, Lanterns), Connie Britton (Rooster, Young Promising Woman) and Adrianne Palicki (Legion, John Wick)
As cast and creatives reunite, this year’s “Texas Made” Award from Media Texas will be presented to the primetime sports drama. The award celebrates productions and talent that have created opportunities for TV & film professionals within the state; bolsters Texas as a creative & cultural center; and exemplifies the unique spirit and storytelling opportunities throughout Texas.
This new programming joins previously announced Homicide: Life on the Street Retrospective; a 10-Year Anniversary for Sweet/Vicious; the return of “A Late Night Show with Greg Iwinski”; “Inside Job: TV’s Non-Writing Producers”; and the inaugural “Indie TV Pilot Competition & Showcase.”
For returning TV campers, Pluto TV will host the Festival’s Official Badgeholder Lounge, providing attendees daily hosted events, themed photo opps and festive activities featuring your favorite series.
