HBO officially unveiled the first trailer for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms during its CCXP Brazil panel, giving fans a closer look at Westeros a century before Game of Thrones, per the HBO press release. The six-episode season debuts January 18 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on HBO and streams on HBO Max, with new episodes airing weekly. The half-hour format is a surprising choice for the franchise, but it immediately stands out as a grounded, character-driven adventure.
The series follows Ser Duncan the Tall, played by Peter Claffey (Bad Sisters, Vikings: Valhalla), and his mysterious young squire Egg, portrayed by Dexter Sol Ansell (Barbie, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes) as they roam Westeros long before the fall of the Targaryens, according to the HBO press release. Their dynamic sits at the core of this adaptation of George R. R. Martin’s classic “Dunk & Egg” novellas.
The full ensemble includes Daniel Ings (The Crown, Lovesick) as Ser Lyonel Baratheon; Bertie Carvel (Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell, The Crown) as Baelor Targaryen; Danny Webb (Alien 3, The Payback) as Ser Arlan of Pennytree; Sam Spruell (Snow White and the Huntsman, Doctor Who) as Maekar Targaryen; Shaun Thomas (The Selfish Giant, Hullraisers) as Raymun Fossoway; Finn Bennett (True Detective: Night Country, Hope Gap) as Aerion Targaryen; and Edward Ashley (The Lost City of Z, The King) as Ser Steffon Fossoway, as noted by HBO press release.
According to the HBO press release, additional cast includes Tanzyn Crawford (Tiny Beautiful Things, How to Please a Woman), Henry Ashton (The Killer’s Game, The Responder), Youssef Kerkour (Home, Criminal: UK), Tom Vaughan-Lawlor (Avengers: Infinity War, Love/Hate) and Daniel Monks (The Witcher: Blood Origin, The Outside In).
Behind the camera, George R. R. Martin (Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon) returns as co-creator alongside Ira Parker (House of the Dragon, Perry Mason). Directors Owen Harris (Black Mirror: San Junipero, Misfits) and Sarah Adina Smith (Birds of Paradise, Legion) lead the season, with executive producers Sarah Bradshaw (The Mummy, Mortal Engines), Ryan Condal (Colony, Hercules), and Vince Gerardis (FlashForward, Jumper) shaping the new Westerosi era, stated by HBO press release.
