Variety reported that three more claims of sexual assault have been made against Kevin Spacey (House of Cards, Se7en) in the London civil court next year. Between the years 2000 and 2013, BBC News says the allegations were made by three men who have sued the actor.
Depending on the decision of whether the claims will be heard in a single civil trial or three consecutive ones, there will be a hearing in London’s High Court on Wednesday, according to Variety.
Spacey, who was cleared of criminal sexual assault charges in the U.K. in 2023, maintains his denial of all allegations via Variety. Despite his acquittal, he now faces three civil claims. BBC News reports that Spacey has formally denied two of these claims in court but has not yet submitted a defense for the third. His representative did not immediately respond to Variety’s request for comment on the matter.
Variety says one of the plaintiffs in the current civil case had initially filed suit against Spacey in 2022, but the proceedings were paused pending the outcome of the criminal trial. This man, whose identity is protected by court anonymity, alleges he suffered “psychiatric damage and other financial loss” due to the alleged sexual assault, which he states occurred in August 2008.
Ruari Cannon (Barney Thomson, World War Z), who chose not to remain anonymous, is another man suing Spacey, according to Variety. Cannon alleges that Spacey allegedly groped him at a 2013 party while Cannon was starring in a production at the Old Vic, where Spacey served as the artistic director. Cannon previously appeared in the Channel 4 docuseries, Spacey Unmasked, promoting the actor to state: “Each time I have been given the time and a proper forum to defend myself, the allegations have failed under scrutiny, and I have been exonerated.”
Later on, Anthony Rapp (Rent, Dazed and Confused) also sued Spacey in New York civil court in 2022 over allegations of sexual assault, but was not found liable by a jury, via Variety.
mxdwn explained that Netflix cut ties with Spacey by suspending him indefinitely from House of Cards, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Additionally, they cancelled the Gore Vidal biopic Gore that Spacey was supposed to star in and produce.
