

According to Variety, Tcheky Karyo, who starred in works such as The Missing and Baptiste, has died of cancer at 72. He has also made appearances in La Femme Nikita, Addicted to Love, Bad Boys, and Golden Eye.
Variety mentions that Karyo was born in Istanbul in 1953. After moving to Paris at a young age, he ended up studying drama at the Cyrano Theatre. Later on, he booked gigs as a performer at the Daniel Sorano Company. He later joined the National Theatre of Strasbourg, acting in French films. A few roles he acquired include movies like The Bear and La Femme Nikita by Luc Besson.
Karyo began making appearances in Hollywood movies in the 1990s. Some movies included Nostradamus, where he played the title role, a villainous role in Bad Boys with Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, an antagonist in Kiss of the Dragon, and a French Officer in The Patriot. He also made an appearance in 1492: Conquest of Paradise, a work of Ridley Scott.
Entering the 2000s, he continued to act in plenty of both French and American projects. He booked his role as Julien Baptiste in The Missing in 2014. For two seasons, he played the starring role, then came back for a two-season spinoff from 2019 to 2021. He also made an appearance in the French film Faster in early 2025.
In addition to acting, Karyo was a musician and songwriter who had released a few albums, including Credo and Ce lien qui nous unit, available on most music streaming platforms. He has also collaborated with artists like BlauBird and Marc Lavoine.
Karyo was twice married, to Isabelle Pasco and Valerie Keruzore. He was first married to Isabelle Pasco in 1995. After their divorce, he married Valerie Keruzore in 2002. They stayed married throughout his life. He has two children with Keruzore, Louise and Liv.
