According to TV Line, Dexter: Original Sin will be getting the axe, as Paramount will not be reversing its season two renewal of the series. Season two of the prequel had originally been greenlit back in April. The series premiered on December 14, 2024, and its final episode aired on February 14, 2025.
Via TV Line, this will not be the last we see of the principled sociopath, as the follow-up series Dexter: Resurrections will likely get a second season. A writer’s room is apparently in the process of staffing.
According to Mxdwn, Dexter: Resurrections takes place 10 weeks after the original’s infamous cliffhanger. Dexter wakes up from a coma in New York City and must attempt to outrun his past while continuing to satiate his need for blood. According to IMDb, the series premiered on July 11, 2025. The season finale is set to release on September 5th. Michael C. Hall (Gamer, Six Feet Under) returns as Dexter along with some new faces, including Uma Thurman (Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill: Vol. 1) and Peter Dinklage (Game Of Thrones, Train Spotting).
TV Line has reported that the prequel is set in 1991 during the infancy of Dexter’s Miami Metro Police Department career. Patrick Gibson (The O.A., What Richard Did), known for his work on the series Shadow and Bone, plays the titular anti-hero. Hall maintains a role in the series, narrating Dexter’s internal monologue.
According to TV Line, the cast also includes Molly Brown (Billions, Evil) as Dexter’s stepsister Deb and Christian Slater (Very Bad Things, True Romance) as Dexter’s adoptive father. Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy The Vampire Slayer, I Know What You Did Last Summer), Patrick Dempsey (Grey’s Anatomy, Enchanted), James Martinez (Wolf Pack, So Help Told Me), and Christina Milian (Man Of The House, Be Cool) guest-starred on the series. Alex Shimizu (The Blacklist, Interior Chinatown) and Reno Wilson (Mike & Molly, Good Girls) were billed as co-stars.
