The heroes-in-training of Godolkin University delivered an update on season two of superhero satire Gen V on Friday as part of San Diego Comic Con. The stars of The Boys spinoff made their first-ever SDCC appearance to tease the college-set series’ “sophomore year”, while assuring fans that what comes next will maintain the sardonic slant that the universe is known for.
After an introduction from The Deep (Chase Crawford) and the arrival of multiple actors, they unveiled a new trailer for Gen V season two, which includes multiple cameos from characters from The Boys. The trailer is available below.
Showrunner Michelle Razekas used the panel as an opportunity to emphasize connections between the shows. “I’m a college dean hired under Homelander,” joked Hamish Linklater, who plays newcomer Dean Cypher in season two. “I’m that hire. Enjoy your pedagogy.”
The actors also teased countless “mouth agape” moments and more of the unorthodox superpowers that defined season one. “Sometimes animals or insects will inspire a power,” Razekas said in response to a question about how the team designed each character. “We’ll meet someone who has the dumbest power, and she’s upset about that. And this season has a lot of dumb powers. And one actually ends up saving the day, and I really love that.”
The scene stealer, though, came at the end of the panel, when SDCC audiences were surprised with a teaser trailer for season five of The Boys. Among other things, the trailer included another tease at the effects of Compound V on hapless assistant Ashley, Homelander rallying his supporters, and, of course, lots and lots of blood. “This is a safer, more God-fearing nation!” the fascist superman yells over the footage.
Seasons one through four of The Boys and season one of Gen V are available now on Prime Video. The first episodes of season two of Gen V will become available on September 17th.
